Grand Canyon
This is North America's ultimate river trip and the most famous of them all, but few beginners realise is that the water releases into the canyon are controlled, so the early and late seasons, either April or September and October, offer the Canyon at its best. Because of the releases, both smooth and white water rafting are available.
North Carolina
The Cherokee word Nundayeli, means and 'middle sun' or 'midday sun' and in North Carolina, the scenic Nantahala – the name taken from the Cherokee, is a perfect river for a beginners’ trip as it has eight miles of constant waves, swift clear currents, and magnificent scenery.
South Carolina
The Chattooga River forms the border of western South Carolina and northeast Georgia. Famously, or infamously this is the scenery that was used during location filming for the movie ‘Deliverance’. It has spectacular scenery and exciting white water Section 3 of the river is ideally suited for beginner to intermediate rafters, while section 4 delivers heart-stopping 4 – 5 rapids.
Tennessee
The Great Smoky Mountain Park is home to the lower and upper Pigeon rivers. The Lower Pigeon is ideal for families with younger children, more relaxed, and less able rafters. The lazy rapids challenge those with experience while revealing stunning views of The Smoky Mountains. Conversely the Upper Pigeon is a big water river with lots of exciting waves and action, rapids are mostly Class 3 with one Class 4.
West Virginia
This region offers some of the best white water in North America. The New River, touted as the second oldest rafting river in the world, offers exciting spring rafting trips. When it is fuelled by rains and snow melt, it contains colossal rapids. As the rains subside and the river levels decrease, it becomes more tranquil and suitable for first-time rafters.
