White water Rafting – 4 top European Sites
1. United Kingdom: The top place in the UK has to be Canolfan Tryweryn in Wales, and not only because this was the first resort to be developed in the UK. The rapids are a good testing round for beginners to experience before launching into a major trip – it’s a great place to find out if you're going to enjoy the sport. Extending up to grade 3 and 4 and including the famously named slide - the 'ski slope', there is plenty to test the beginner and experienced rafter alike.
2. Switzerland: It is cold, but this is the whitest of white water and the rapids go up to grade 5 with some un-runnable. Favourite resorts include Interlaken and the surrounding Jungfrau District of the Bernese Oberland, where intrepid visitors have been entertained with mountain-climbing, alpine touring, and other challenging pursuits for more than a century. Note, that some of these rapids are really extreme, people died in a flash flood that overwhelmed a raft in 1999
3. Austria: Rafting trips for individuals and groups, families and special activities, half and full day trips are held on the river Inn, in the Austrian Tyrol. The river includes grade 3-5 rapids.
4. Iceland: The river Blanda is a perfect choice for beginners. You can paddle, swim, or simply lay back and watch the landscape as you pass by – the rapids are grade 1 – 2 and so do not challenge even handicapped rafters. By contrast, the East Glacial River can be navigated from the highlands down to Skagafjörður. It has class 4 plus rapids and plenty of white water action.
