Great tricks to teach your body – 1
Self control when it matters most
Need to pee but there’s no toilet nearby? Fantasise about J-Lo or Brad Pitt. When you think about sex, not only is your brain preoccupied, which removes some of your feeling of discomfort, but the same muscles as engage for urination, work for sexual arousal which means that the sex thoughts override the others and change the way your body takes stock of itself, pushing back the toilet demands behind the sexual ones.
Frightened of a prick?
German researchers have discovered that coughing during an injection can lessen the pain of the needle stick. This trick causes a sudden, temporary rise in pressure in the chest and spinal canal, which inhibits the pain-conducting structures of the spinal cord so you don’t notice the pain nearly so much.
Clear your stuffed nose and blocked ears
This is really good if you get headaches in planes. Relieve sinus pressure is by alternately thrusting your tongue against the roof of your mouth, then pressing between your eyebrows with one finger. This causes the vomer bone, which runs through the nasal passages to the mouth, to rock back and forth and this motion loosens congestion - after 20 seconds, you'll feel your sinuses start to drain.
Dealing with pins and needles
If your hand falls asleep while you're driving or sitting, rock your head from side to side. It'll painlessly banish your pins and needles in less than a minute. A tingly hand or arm is often the result of compression in the bunch of nerves that run through your neck and mobilising your neck muscles releases the pressure. Compressed nerves lower in the body govern the feet so rock your hips as you did your head which will relieve the sciatic nerves in the same way.
